Edwin Grant Masters was born July 27, 1868, at Athens, Ohio. In the early 1890s, while yet a young man in his twenties, he became a minister in the Church of God (Evening Light Reformation) movement. On November 19, 1896, he was united in marriage to Susan Berrie Knight, in Iowa. To this union three daughters and three sons were born.

E. G. Masters wrote words and music to Evening Light Songs #153, “Satisfied with Jesus.” He also wrote words and music to six songs published in Songs of the Evening Light, 1897: “Come, Sinner, Come,” #9; “Our Needs Supplied,” #24; “Mother,” #87; “I Shall Never Forget,” #126; “Defeat the Devil,” #136; “Jesus Will Do the Same for Thee,” #152.

He departed this life November 3, 1938, at the age of 70, in Inglewood, California. His body was laid to rest in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Los Angeles County, California. His wife, Susan Masters was born September 7, 1872, and died November 14, 1964, at the age of 92. She is buried in Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland, Oregon.
